How do I know it is solid brass?
It is noticeably heavier for its size, and the metal inside the screw hole is the same colour as the outside. Plated hardware is a thin brass skin over zinc or steel, and once it wears through at the touch point it cannot be brought back.
What length pull do I need?
Pulls are measured centre to centre between the screws. A useful rule is roughly a third of the width of the drawer front, and two shorter pulls usually look better than one long one on a very wide drawer.
Do the screws come with it?
Standard ones do, sized for a normal drawer front of about three quarters of an inch. Shaker fronts and applied mouldings need longer screws, so measure your fronts and order the right length at the same time.

This is the one thing worth checking before anything else. Plated hardware is a thin brass skin over zinc or steel, and once it wears through at the touch point it cannot be brought back. Pull length is measured centre to centre between the screws, and it is the number the drawer front dictates. As a rule of thumb, a pull wants to be roughly a third of the width of the drawer it sits on. Two shorter pulls usually look better than one long one on a very wide drawer.
Knobs suit doors and small drawers. On a deep drawer a knob makes you pull from one point, which racks the runners over the years.
Screws, which is where orders go wrong
Hardware ships with screws for a standard drawer front, around three quarters of an inch. Shaker fronts, applied mouldings and thick timber all need longer ones, and a screw that is a quarter inch short simply will not hold. Measure the front, then order the screw length you need at the same time as the hardware.
Living with the patina
Unlacquered brass on a handle darkens everywhere except where your hand lands, so a kitchen ends up with bright hollows in a dark field. It looks deliberate and it takes about a year. If you want an even colour, polish everything once a year, or buy a sealed finish and accept it will wear at the touch points instead.
